The recent events at the India – Pakistan border, exposed the reality of the Indian national media, which shows their unprofessionalism while covering these events, the factors that show their unprofessionalism includes – claiming the situation of conflict as war, civilian casualties as normal thing, controlling the land of our western neighbour, use of nuclear weapons and many more. These events need special attention to details, importance and responsibility to cover it, but they cover it as a jingoistic event and make these serious news as sensationalist content. This coverage of recent conflict may turn into some serious consequences that may impact many lives on both sides of the border. India’s stand was clear, they were taking actions against the terrorists and their fortresses, India’s attack was based on precision as claimed by Indian Foreign Secy. Vikram Misri and Indian forces showed professionalism while conducting Operation Sindoor and they did not attack any civilians and civilian places in Pakistan but the retaliations by Pakistan were not precise; they attacked civilians and civilian locations including schools, temples and Gurudwaras in Indian Administered Jammu region. This retaliation against Operation Sindoor conducted by Pakistan was named Operation Bunyan-al-Marsoos by the Pakistan Army which means “a solid wall of lead” and they attacked the civilians of India in which they killed 16 civilians including 12 year old twins. These cold blooded murder of civilians are heart wrenching. These actions by Pakistan are acclaimed as retaliations against India’s professional attack on terrorist hubs.
Of course we Indians are not afraid of war and we believe in our army and government and our overall national capabilities to deal with war-like situations but at the same time we believe in peace and harmony and war should be the last option. The pathetic role of our national broadcast media has raised some serious concern for the role of “professional journalism” while covering the incidents related to national importance. As we discuss in brief the recent situation of India and Pakistan conflict above in context of Journalism, another important aspect that we need to discuss is, “India losses the information warfare in this conflict”, it is very much clear because we need to send our contingents of senior parliamentarians to other nations to put forward Indian side of story to the world. If spreading information is the work of politicians and diplomats, then what media is doing in India. In this chain of articles on Indian Standpoint, let’s discuss the need for media reforms and responsible journalism in India.
